Hi! In the settings for mail, I see
Apache Module mod_ssl is not loaded
Does this mean I won't be able to use Gmail to send? How in this case to configure sending emails from the site?
-
@alex7070
I think this mode is disabled in most hostings and has no impact on setting up of mail server.
-
I filled in all the fields, but the test email didn't go for some reason. What could be the problem? Maybe you can recommend other email services besides Gmail?
-
@alex7070
Check docs, try to switch smtp authentication. Fill all the fields that are listed on configuration page (!)
Gmail works OK for me.
-
Your hosting also says Apache Module mod_ssl is not loaded?
-
It would be nice if the script can use the standard php sendmail function. I don't think spammers will use osclass. And if someone decides to engage in spam, then this is not a problem for the developers of the script for the message board.
-
@alex7070
Yes there is a lot of spam bots around osclass.
-
This is how the hosting should usually respond in case of spam. Nowadays, most hosting providers are on guard against spam and easily block a suspicious site. This does not mean that conscientious users should not use a useful standard php function.
-
@alex7070
You may read on google why not to use PHP mail() function.
-
It turns out that my site will not fully work without switching to hosting with Apache Module mod_ssl enabled :(

But I did everything according to the instructions with Gmail. I have also tried yahoo mail with instruction

Test email was not sent
-
@alex7070
Tested with my gmail and worked properly. As I told few settings needs to be tested like smtp authentication.
Make sure to check your error log as well.
-
I have attached screenshot of the settings. That's right, am I not wrong?
-
Read previous answers and documentation.
-
This event was not reflected in error_log, I looked. What could be the problem?
Did I fill in the settings correctly? I was definitely not mistaken with the login and password of my gmail.
-
Make sure to show php errors and try ie registration that send email.
-
Yesterday's 500 Error got into the report, but today's (non-sending mail) was not reflected in the report. What does ie registration mean?
-
When registering, email is sent. If mail is not configured properly, it will throw error.
-
I set up an email account with my hosting cpanel and sending emails started working with it. Doesn't work with Gmail. Thanks for the help!
-
@alex7070
It does work with gmail for me ::)
-
Your hosting enable Apache Module mod_ssl?
-
@alex7070
No it does not support apache module mod_ssl.
-
As I always SAY SSL is not working ( mostly because the error " mod_ssl " ). But even with working one it will still not work in SSL. So leave the field empty and will start working. P.S. For some reason in the last versions ( not only the version of Osclasspoint but in other versions too ) google email server is not working in OC
-
Foe me gmail works.
Ssl auth is dependant on hosting, I do not think there is relation between mid_ssl and ssl auth not functional.
Ie on my hosting ssl create delay when sending mail, anyway I will try to reserve time to look on it
-
Try with blank on ssl, just delete the ssl in the text area and leave it blank it will work
-
In any case, sending via gmail is unreliable. They can make restrictions in case the emails seem suspicious to them or there are a lot of them. Better to use for sending smtp of hosting.
-
@alex7070
I know cases where hosting can do the same, it happened to me few times, just some people marked mail as spam and it stopped to work :)
-
Have you tried sending mail via yahoo? It doesn't work for me with either yahoo or gmail. Maybe something is wrong with my hosting.
-
Well, ie for gmail I remeber I had to specially allow using account for sending mails from application.
-
How did you allow gmail to be used to send emails? In your gmail account? I have not noticed such settings. Could you show a screenshot of these settings?
-
@alex7070
It was years ago :)
Go to https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords and sign in to your account.
Select Mail from the list of apps available.
Select Other from the device list.
Enter your Custom Name. ...
Click the Generate button.
Copy and save the password to your computer.
Click the Done button, and that's it.
