Cyrillic support?
« on: May 16, 2017, 01:22:55 PM »
The theme doesn't seem to support or have very limited Cyrillic characters support. Although it displays old listings created with another theme correctly, they can't be edited - all fields become empty. New listings also can't be posted, as fields containing Cyrillic characters are recognised as empty, and warning is displayed, so not usable at all.
Can anyone confirm this?

Okay, odd things happen - I was getting that Title and Description fields are empty. This seem to be related to the current language chosen, as I finally managed to get through. Same thing in edit, if text is in Cyrillic, it won't appear if English is selected in the ad language.

The one thing remaining is the live search - whatever language I select, this doesn't seem to find anything in Cyrillic, English is fine. Could you confirm if that's been tested before?

Thanks

@ColdFusion
If you have 2 languages and you publish listing in language 1, it may show empty title/description if you browse site using language 2.

Actually browsing is fine, would be a bit awkward if half of the ads weren't shown because of the interface language. Text disappears in add edit window when it's own language is switched.

My bigger worry is the live search - can you confirm if this should work in Cyrillic?

Okay, I think we're in a bit of a sticky problem here:

turns out the live search will only work with languages installed in the respective language folder - for example, it will work with Russian if you have the ru_RU folder in the theme/language. Also, it will only work, if the corresponding language is selected in the Post an ad dialog during creation - otherwise it won't be found - beats me why!

More seriously, it will not find any listings, both live and normal search if the listing isn't in the current interface language. For example, if I'm in Russian and type search term in English - no listings are found, even if they exist. That is quite a problem, as even if the interface is in foreign language, you'd still be searching for iPhone or PlayStation typing it in English, right? Currently, you need to switch to English interface to be able to do that, which no one visiting your site would even think of doing in order to get search results.

So, the question is, how can we fix this, as it is just unusable in it's current state?

EDIT: Seem to be a core problem, damn  :(

Search only looks into ads, that the seller created while using the same language settings as your current ones - totally defeats the idea of having multi language site - if you want to filter by language, there should be filter for it, not filter by current selected interface language. Anyone that has a workaround?

Yes indeed, after realising where the problem was, it became much easier to search for the solution. Here https://forums.osclass.org/3-5-x/search-problem-oc-3-5-3/msg113711/#msg113711 there seem to be a workaround, but also appears, that after all, it's up to the theme's functions.php to decide how the search is done. I'm surprised that hasn't been covered as an optional setting after all these years. There should be an option to search in current language and if a specific add didn't have that language in the header, to display whatever there is, so the same ad isn't duplicated in two or more languages.

I'll test the above solution, but would have been nice to have it integrated in the theme to make it more multi-language friendly.

Thank you for your time.
