Sounds great! The plugin currently includes several unused payment gateways, which adds unnecessary load and clutter. Splitting the gateways into separate add-ons is a smart move — it allows users to install only the ones they actually need (typically just 1 or 2 at a time), which helps improve performance and maintainability.

That said, what's the best way to safely remove the unused gateways from older versions of the plugin? Is there a recommended approach to avoid breaking existing configurations or causing compatibility issues?

Plugin will take care of removal during update.
Alternatively, you can remove payments folder in plugin.

When removed unused gateways folder from old plugin 3.9.4 file payment folder then

Some files in folder oc-content/plugins/osclass_pay/payments are not readable! In order to make plugin fully functional, all the plugin files must be readable. Please contact your hosting provider for help. Make sure correct CHMOD settings are set on all plugin files.

this error coming.

plugin folder removed but database not clean, so may be error coming. How safely remove this from old plugin?

That's great, if you're planning on further developing the standalone gateways to support renewals, invoicing, refunds, fraud, better reporting etc., or are you just planning on keeping current integrated features as is and just update the sdk/api bits?

Also, what will happen to those who already bought the pay plugin and decide not to split the gateways? Do they stop receiving new updates/features to their plugin?

We do not ppan refunds and others, mainly for security reasons. No matter what you do in plugin, you just receiving that cannot be misused.
You only have option to update or not, majority of future updates will be focused to enhancement of split features.
