[Suggestion] - New plugin: Sign in with Apple
« on: March 01, 2023, 11:41:36 AM »
Hello @MB,

It would be great if you would consider creating a new "Sign in with Apple" authentication premium plugin that doesn't rely on third-party services.

The popular top 3 authentication services are Google, Facebook and Apple with the latter being the most privacy-focused and least intrusive with the information shared.

I'm pretty sure there will be demand for it as is the case with any premium plugin that provides a value-added service that does not rely on third-party services or subscriptions.

Thank you.

Wiz

That's ok, was worth the shot. I personally don't like meta/facebook and would choose Apple over them any day of the week. Anyway, the rest api/sdk is not that hard to implement so I'll do that myself.

The thing I dislike the most about third-party authentication services is the access they get to user information / profiles.

Cheers

True, that's why standalone authentication plugins/implementations are much better... 2 parties instead of 3. There's an upfront cost, dev effort or plugin purchase, but more savings and privacy/data controls in the long run.

Agree with the request.
Apple for authentication, and Apple Pay for payment  ;) are two precious tools, like it or not  ;)

I would say none of those is "free" in terms of license and usage.

I would pay for both plugins like Apple Login and Apple Pay for payment plugin.

They're not and that's ok but are considered to be a more privacy/security-focused option. Also, we can't just discount 2.35 billion activated Apple devices!

Bottomline - direct integrations are always preferred when 1 to 3, maybe 4, authentication providers are used and will always be cheaper to operate and maintain vs middlemen/intermediary services with restrictive high-priced quotas and/or monthly fees, access to user data etc.

What I mean is that even developer and also user needs to pay XX$ yearly to have access to api.
In past used to be something like $100 yearly, that I am 100% sure just very few prople would want to pay just for login

What it means is, that person purchase plugin for 20€ and then realize there is need to pay another 100 for just api, thats something that would make many orders to open claims and cancel order.

I get what you're saying MB Themes but it's a known fact that you can only setup Apple Account login if you have a developer account and maintaining an Apple developer account is around $100 yearly. A note could be added to the plugin info page reminding users of this fact, just as you currently do with other plugins. It's on them if they place an order without reading the note.

Anyway, I've already implemented Apple signin via a third-party composer package which handles multiple other authentication providers ie. Microsoft, Tiktok etc. I'm only contributing here to shed light on the importance of including the Apple ecosystem as it's massive and shouldn't be discounted nor excluded in 2025 and beyond.

Well notice, checkbox or whatever, at the end of the day gateway does not care if claim is valid or not and its not worth to do such products.
Last one was auto-poster to facebook, it took months to setup api and there were still complains on plugin that its provlem there, not with people not having correct api.
...soo, lot of work, initial payment, regular payments to keep it up to date and still does not mean it will be useful and brings any benefit.
