Issues with Osclass installation
« on: October 26, 2022, 08:07:11 AM »
I am having an issue with the installation of osclass v8.0.2.

I run the /oc-includes/osclass/install.php file as required and am presented with the database setup page. This all goes fine and I am able to fill in all the necessary info and then get taken through to the next step which is: 3. Website information setup.

After entering all the info here I try to click "next" but it will not go through. There is no error message, there is nothing, the page simply resets to the top (All the info I filled is still on the page) and nothing happens.

The url shows /oc-includes/osclass/install.php#

If anyone knows what might be going wrong here please I would really appreciate your assistance.

Many thanks,
Pete

@PeterB
Try to enable error logging and check your browser console for possible javascript errros.
To get fast support, we need following details: Detail description, URL to reproduce problem, Screenshots

That is exactly what I had yesterday (see other thread) and the browser console complaint about loading http content on a initial https loaded page (PeterB, did you also see huge green ticks on the initial set-up page?). The possible solution could be to run it locally completely unencrypted.

Thank you all.

@RealMurphy yes there were all large green ticks on the initial page.

This really has me stumped.
I have tried different versions of Osclass, even osclass-evo but I can not get anything installed.

The problem is not the version of osclass but your current set-up as it seemingly mixes https and http resources on the same page which your browser does not like (for the obvious reason that private data may leak through one of the loaded http components).

Thus, at least for setting up, try setting your WEB_PATH to http:// localhost/ (minus the space) and then browse there and perform the setup locally. If this is installed on a remote machine and you cannot start your browser there *but* have the possibility to use ssh (putty may work, but I don't know much about this) to log into it, try ssh -L 8080:localhost:80 user@remote_box and then point your local browser to http:// localhost:8080/ (again, remove the space) where you should be able to connect to osclass and perform the initial installation just fine.

For the final deployment, you may need to change WEB_PATH to your https address and see if it works then. Can you elaborate on your set-up, i.e. directly listening to the internet, if you use proxy services inbetween, port forwarding, ....?

Well not sire what you are trying to do, but if you do it on localhost, then problem is most probably with that localhost

No I am not doing it on a localhost, I am doing it on my domain host server.

Also on page 3 (Website information setup) at the bottom, it askes for a location. In all the tutorials I have watched there are numerous locations available. I only have the United Kingdom as an option (Not my area)

Is this normal?

Until you have real errors from php logs or browser console, its hard to help.
Try to use php 7.4, maybe that is problem.

Location error is different, list was incorrectly updated after last development.
Will be fixed today/tomorrow

I am 100% sure that my struggles are my own fault, but I still just can not get it right.

I have asked my hosting company now for assistance but they misunderstood my issue and thought that it was the database setup that was giving me problems. But I have let them know that the database seems to set up correctly and the config.php file is created correctly but it is the final step that gets me (Website information setup.)

Even when I hover over the "next button it shows the url as mywebsite.com/oc-includes/osclass/install.php#

That # at the end is not correct is it?

it is correct (see MB Themes's post), but please do the following:

When you are on that install page and the button does not work, go into the developer console of your browser (in Firefox by hitting F12) and see if you get red warning signs and/or warnings written out in the "Console" tab. As written last week, my bet is that you will see errors that this page mixes encrypted and unencrypted contents. If that is the case, your browser prohibits loading the java script library and hence does not know what to do when you hit the button with said link.
