Search only works in one language
« on: July 25, 2023, 07:07:24 AM »
Hi all.  I wanted to add a second language to my site, but there is a problem with finding ads!  The fact is that if an ad with a keyword such as "Mercedes" is published in German, it can only be found by users who use the site in German, if the user uses the site in English, he cannot find this ad even by writing the keyword to search for "Mercedes" in English.  What is the point of switching the language on the site if the publications are not available in the search?

That search will only be relevant in user locale.
To get fast support, we need following details: Detail description, URL to reproduce problem, Screenshots

Well, what to do in those countries if, for example, the country has two official languages?  Or, for example, a Pole is looking for some goods in Germany!  He needs to find something in Germany - switch to German!!!  What then is the point of making the site multilingual?

Let me give you another example: For example, you speak English, you want to find something in France, find a French classifieds site, see that there is English, turn on English, do a search, enter a keyword in the search, for example: Fiat car, or Bicycle, and what do you get ??  Zero search results!!!

Correct, but "car" could mean different things in different languages.
Next there is worse performance as well where you need to search in more rows.

Anyway, we plan to add selector to backoffice where you can choose how search engine works, but not sure when...

right and it's logical, I also thought about it, but if an Englishman searches for some product on a German site and even if he enters a keyword in German, he will still get zero search results because his site is included in English.  It turns out that in order to search for goods in Germany, you need to switch the site to German, which is not logical!  In my opinion, a user's post should belong to the same language zone in which the post was published, but the search engine should look for the keyword in all language zones.

What can I say about my situation when in my country people speak two languages, these languages are similar to each other, and all sites use two languages.  I need to make sure that the search engine returns all the results regardless of the language in which the publication was published.  I will be very grateful for your help.
