Trying to get the Amazon SES plugin to work on our VPS. Plugin fields properly setup with key/secret that we have confirmed work in other apps.
We have tried three scenarios:
1. without configuring the plugin
2. configuring the plugin with no Mail server settings
3. configuring the plugin and entering the proper AWS SES SMTP details
Scenarios 1/2 just send using the regular PHPMailer with our VPS mail server details. Scenario 3 errors out when any action needing to send an email (new user, password reset, etc) the site hiccups and no response is returned in the browser but the site log shows:

Similiary, when we try to send a test from within the Mail Server settings, we get log errors, hinting to a problem in line 72 of the amazonses/index.php file:

Line 72 of the amazonses/index.php is
$mail->IsAmazonSES();
I would like to use this for our mailing to reduce the load on our premises mail server.
